How much does a custom Odoo module cost?
A custom Odoo module costs from around €600 excl. VAT for a small adjustment (a computed field, a PDF report, a rule or a button), and usually €2,500 to €10,000 excl. VAT for a complete business module with its screens, rights, workflow and reports; a connector to other software depends mostly on the API on the other side. Before developing, check that an existing app is not enough. Here is what drives the price, with examples.
Price ranges
| Module type | Examples | Range (excl. VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| Small module | Computed field, PDF report, validation rule, action button | €600 – €1,500 |
| Functional module | Simple new process, several screens, automations | €1,500 – €4,000 |
| Business module | Complete new object: screens, rights, workflow, reports, dashboards | €2,500 – €10,000 |
| Connector | Sync with an online shop, business software, a platform | €1,500 – €8,000 |
| Module migration | Port to Odoo 18, 19 or 20 with tests | from €400 per module |
What drives the price
- Clarity of the need: “orders above €5,000 must be approved by the sales director” is quick to estimate and build; a vague need costs back-and-forth. A one- or two-hour scoping workshop is often the best investment.
- Number of screens and rules: each screen, computation and check is developed and tested.
- Interaction with standard Odoo: a module adding an independent object is simple; one changing sales, inventory and accounting behaviour at once needs more care and tests.
- Connections: everything depends on the other system — modern documented API or files over FTP. See Odoo connectors.
- Version and edition: supporting Community and Enterprise, or several versions, takes a little more work. See Odoo Community vs Enterprise.
Three real examples
- A “warranty end date” field computed from delivery date and product warranty length, shown on the customer and invoice, with an alert 30 days before: small module, about €800 excl. VAT.
- Field-service tracking: an “intervention” object linked to customer and equipment, planning, signed PDF report, automatic invoicing of parts and labour: business module, about €6,000 excl. VAT.
- Sync with an online shop: products, stock and orders both ways: connector, €3,000 to €6,000 excl. VAT depending on the shop.
First, check what exists
Is there a standard Odoo option? Does an app on the official store do it? For PDF reports, labels, fields, access rights and approvals, our Ramira Studio apps cost €24 to €79: see a Studio for Odoo Community and our Odoo apps. Does a community module (OCA) cover most of it? We check systematically before quoting — building what already exists means paying twice.
What should be included
A serious quote includes the analysis and a written description, development following Odoo’s guidelines without touching the core, automated tests, installation on a test database then production, short documentation and user training, and a warranty on defects. Beware of quotes without tests or a test database: the module will work on delivery day… until the next update. Future migrations are covered in migrating an Odoo module, and simpler alternatives in adding custom fields in Odoo.
In short
€600 for an adjustment, a few thousand euros for a complete process, and always a check of what exists before coding. See our custom Odoo modules service or describe your need — the estimate is free.
FAQ
Why not do everything with Studio or apps?
For adjustments, that is often the best solution. As soon as there are computations, business rules, automations or connections, a coded and tested module is more reliable and easier to evolve.
Do I own the module?
At Ramira, yes: the source code of a module built for you is handed over, under a licence that leaves you free to evolve it with another provider.
Do I need a maintenance contract?
It is not mandatory. But a module must be ported at each Odoo migration and fixed if an update affects it. A small yearly package avoids surprises.
